I’m an Auckland-based freelance communications specialist with over seven ‘official’ years’ experience as a writer.
The CV
I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and Media Studies and a Post Graduate Diploma of Advertising Creativity from AUT.
Following my graduation from AUT, I worked as a below the line copywriter and account executive for one of the country’s top advertising agencies (DDB/WRC) where my clients included: Cadbury, Watties, SPCA, Dr Martens and UGG Australia. It was here I learned to juggle being both a ‘creative’ and a ‘suit’ – a skill which makes me a rare breed.
I have also worked as a writer for a variety of print magazines (Madison, Stella, Auckland MAX, New Zealand Weddings, M2 Woman, How To and Gift Buyer) and spent over three years in digital publishing as beauty editor and editor of online women's magazines.
I've written press releases, print ads, billboards, direct mail, radio copy pointers, advertorial, website copy, e-newsletters, magazine articles, Facebook and Twitter updates.
As a freelance copywriter, my work experiences culminate in a number of useful skills for my clients that are, in no particular order...
- A passion for branding and marketing communications (marcom) an understanding of what makes consumers tick
- A creative mind, balanced by a ‘reality check’
- An ability to write copy for all manner of clients
- Strong editorial and advertorial copy skills
- SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) copywriting, EDM (e-newsletters and email advertising), website advertising and social networking skills
How I work It’s important to the integrity of my work that I understand who you are, what your customers are like, the goals you are trying to achieve and who your business is competing with. I’ll ask you some questions, do my own research and make sure that the copy I produce ticks the right boxes. My promise to you is simple. Every client gets my attention and dedication. I don’t cut corners and I keep my clients happy. I do what I say I am going to do and I deliver it on time.
My niche areas I’ll turn my hand to anything and the clients I have written for include real estate agents, mortgage brokers, shoe care companies, wine companies, universities and many more. However, there are some topics I know inside out:
- Beauty
I have worked as beauty editor for two print magazines and two online magazines. I would say there is nothing I don’t know about the industry and if there is – it’s probably a beauty myth. - Health & Wellness
I'm passionate about holistic and healthy living and love to exercise, so it's only natural that I get a kick out of writing inspiring and educational articles on the importance of health, fitness and wellbeing. LOHAS (Lifestyles Of Health And Sustainability) is one of my favourite writing areas - from both an editorial and business perspective.
- Women’s Interest
As editor of an online women’s magazine for over three years, there’s no women’s interest topic I haven’t researched and written about... Fashion, beauty, parenting, relationships and everything in-between. I'm an expert in the field of marketing to women, knowing the right tone of voice to target them with and what they look for in marketing communications.
- Environmental / Eco issues
I think the world is just fantastic and I’m keen to do my bit to keep it that way. I have a blog (www.greenqueen.co.nz) that I use to share simple tips for living a greener, healthier lifestyle and leaving a smaller carbon footprint.
